Permaclub at Hawkridge Homestead
A monthly day of shared farm labour, learning, and food systems practice.
Participants exchange time and care for hands-on knowledge, community, and—during harvest months—a share of farm produce.
Permaculture ethics: Fair Share · Earth Care
Principles in focus: Catch and store energy · Use and value diversity
August is intense and abundant. This Permaclub day focuses on harvesting tomatoes, water-bath canning, ongoing weeding, and planting fall crops.
We’ll discuss how preservation reduces waste, increases food security, and redistributes labour across seasons. Participants will also learn how fall planting extends productivity without increasing inputs.
This day makes visible the labour behind food security—and the value of doing it together.
You’ll leave with: canning experience, fall planting knowledge, and a clearer understanding of preservation as resilience.
Participants will harvest tomatoes, learn water-bath canning, weed, and plant fall crops. This is a high-labour, high-reward day focused on food storage and seasonal balance.
Focus: preservation, fall planning, collective labour.
