Going Whole Hog

Many people are intimidated by the idea of ordering by the quarter, half, or whole hog, thinking it’ll just be way too much meat, especially for a small family or a couple.  But I have to say, the economy of buying this way REALLY pays off, and you just need a moderate amount of freezer space (or friends and family to share your order!) to make it really worthwhile.  Our family eats a primarily vegetarian diet, with maybe one or two meals with meat a week, and we had no problem polishing off a half order in about 4 months time.

We found that many customers who purchased just a couple roasts, a few pounds of bacon, and some sausages had basically already bought a half order in terms of cost, but took home only a few cuts.  We’re happy for you to order individual cuts, most certainly, but ordering a quarter/half/whole hog is definitely a much better deal economically!

To make it easier to picture a quarter, half, and whole hog order, we thought we’d give you the breakdown of how many cuts of pork usually come with each order, and give you a few options to hopefully convince you that buying in bulk is really worthwhile!  Click on the image below for a more detailed read!  If you’re ever short on ideas on how to cook a particular cut, just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to share some recipes with you!

*Please note: These numbers will vary slightly depending on the size of your pig.  Our pigs are roughly 250-275lbs when they “go to market”, so there is some variation in number of cuts depending on the size of each pig.

**Please also note: There is a +$2.50/lb charge for smoking of bacon & hams.

I'd like to order:

Would you like any of your cuts smoked? (+$2.50/lb)
